Empowering a New Generation Through Technology: AKEM’s Computer Lab Update 2025

In 2025, Africa Kids Evangelism Ministries (AKEM) took a significant step forward in equipping children for a brighter and more Godly future with the upgrade of our school’s computer lab in Djagble, Togo.

New Computer Lab for AKEM

Education today goes beyond books and chalkboards. Computer literacy has become an essential skill for learning, communication, and future opportunities. With this understanding, AKEM invested in 21 Dell desktop computers, giving our students access to modern technology designed to help them learn, grow, and thrive.

Serving Over 1,000 Students

Our school currently serves 1,100 enrolled students, and approximately 1,000 students from 1st through 12th grade now utilize the computer lab through scheduled computer classes. These sessions introduce students to basic computer literacy, including the use of word processors and guided internet access for educational purposes.

For many of these children, this lab represents one of their most meaningful encounters with modern technology.

Building on the Past, Improving for the Future

AKEM first introduced a computer lab in 2021, but over time, the equipment became very dated and increasingly limited what students could learn. Recognizing the growing importance of technology in education, we made the decision to upgrade in 2025.

The new Dell desktop computers are connected to the internet and equipped with word processing tools, allowing students to practice typing, create documents, and begin developing digital skills that will serve them throughout their academic and professional lives.

Students are eager to attend their computer classes, and the excitement in the lab reflects how meaningful this opportunity is for them. What may seem ordinary in other parts of the world is transformational here.
