Opening Doors to Discovery: AKEM Launches Its First Scientific Laboratory for the 2025/2026 School Year

For the 2025/2026 school year, Africa Kids Evangelism Ministries (AKEM) proudly opened its first-ever scientific laboratory at our school in Djagble, Togo. This milestone represents a major step forward in our commitment to academic excellence, practical learning, and preparing students for meaningful futures.

For years, our students studied science through literature alone. While theory is important, the lack of hands-on learning made it difficult for students to fully grasp scientific concepts or gain practical knowledge. Today, that has changed.

A New Era of Hands-On Science Learning

The new science lab was designed to support:

Hands-on science learning

Preparation for national and academic examinations

Inspiration for future doctors, engineers, and scientists

Improved STEM education

The lab serves approximately 800 students in grades 6 through 12, providing them with structured, scheduled laboratory sessions as part of their regular science classes.

Equipped for Excellence

This brand-new laboratory supports Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and General Science and is equipped with essential tools that bring learning to life, including:

Microscopes

Laboratory tables

Safety equipment

Glassware and chemistry solutions

Anatomical models

Periodic tables

A projector screen for instruction and demonstrations

Teachers have been trained to effectively use the lab, ensuring that students receive proper guidance, safety instruction, and high-quality practical education.

Impact Felt Immediately

The response has been deeply encouraging. Students are excited and happy, eager to engage in experiments and practical lessons they had only read about before. Parents are appreciative, recognizing the value this lab brings to their children’s education and future opportunities.

Education, Faith, and Purpose

While Creationism is not part of the approved Togo national curriculum, AKEM remains a faith-based ministry. Scientific instruction follows national academic standards, while our faith-based classes teach biblical principles, helping students understand that faith and learning can coexist with excellence, integrity, and purpose.

By equipping students with strong STEM foundations, we are better positioning them to pursue fulfilling careers, serve their communities, and glorify God through diligence and knowledge.

Gratitude and Partnership

This scientific laboratory was made possible in part through the generosity and support of the Bebernes family of Ottumwa, Iowa. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for their belief in this vision and their investment in the lives of our students.

How You Can Continue to Help

As we celebrate this achievement, the work continues. We invite you to:

Pray for our students and teachers

Pray that this lab will be used safely, wisely, and effectively

Support AKEM as we continue expanding educational opportunities rooted in faith and excellence

Together, we are nurturing curiosity, building knowledge, and shaping futures.

Thank you for standing with Africa Kids Evangelism Ministries.
